Founded by Fred and Vera Shield of San Antonio, these rangelands are an expression of the family’s multi-generational commitment to land stewardship and land and water conservation. They are managed by Shield Land Stewardship Group.

Shield Land Stewardship Group, LLC (SLS) is a management company formed in 2019 to provide comprehensive land and facilities management services for the ranches and related properties owned by the Shield-Ayres family. SLS also manages the land and facilities of the portion of Shield Ranch owned by the Shield Ranch Foundation.

The Shield Ranch Foundation is a nonprofit (501c3) private operating foundation organized to steward and share the Ranch in ways that educate, inspire and transform. The Shield Ranch Foundation operates El Ranchito nature-immersion summer camp for youth. The Campsite at Shield Ranch will host community groups participating in scheduled programming with a focus on transformative experiences in nature for people of all ages, including nature-based education for area students, youth leadership programs, spiritual and contemplative retreats, land stewardship seminars, wellness programs and community events.
